ABOUT MBF

The Montclair Bridge Fund brings neighbors together to keep classrooms thriving and protect the socioeconomic diversity that makes Montclair home. If the upcoming referendum passes, we’ll ease the newly created hardship for lower-income households. If it doesn’t, your gift will support students in town through local non-profits focused on education and equity—either way, your generosity helps Montclair’s kids.

Our goal is to raise $570,000 to support 500+ Montclair households who may struggle with the increased costs.

STRONG SCHOOLS. STRONG NEIGHBORS.

HOW IT WORKS

Yes-Activated Relief

Should either of the December 9 referendum questions pass, we’ll partner with Montclair nonprofits to distribute funds directly to residents facing economic hardship. If the referendum does not pass, all funds will be redirected to local education nonprofits.

In both cases, a community steering committee—with representation across all wards and schools—will guide how funds are used to ensure transparency, equity, and impact.

Our guiding principles:

  • Direct Impact: Funds go directly to Montclair residents experiencing hardship.

  • Equity and Accessibility: A simple, objective application process using proof of residency and hardship.

  • Hardship Is Hardship: Funds will be available for homeowners and renters—rising costs affect everyone.

  • Tax-Deductible: Donations are made through our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, the Northern New Jersey Community Foundation.
